NBC now cancels “Trauma”, extends “Chuck”

Despite ordering an additional three episodes of medical drama “Trauma” yesterday, NBC have now cancelled the show and will not be ordering any additional episodes than the 13 they have already committed to. They have, however, ordered up six additional episodes of “Chuck”, which shares the same timeslot.

NBC has ordered a further three episodes of medical drama “Trauma”. Marred by criticism over weak stories and bad acting, it has still managed to pull in decent (though not huge) viewing figures. Last night’s episode managed a rather mediocre 5.77million viewers.

Ricky Gervais to host Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais has been confirmed to host the 67th Golden Globes, the first host the ceremony will have had since 1995. Nominations are due to be announced on the 15th December 2009 with the show taking place live on NBC on the 17th January 2010.

NBC has an ordering spree

NBC has ordered up a few episodes of several shows over the last few days.

“Mercy” has had a full season order and follows three nurses who deal with patients and personal issues at Mercy Hospital. It stars Taylor Schilling, Michelle Trachtenberg and Jaime Lee Kirchner.
“Community” has also been given a full season. It’s a comedy about a lawyer whose education is deemed void by the BAR and so he must attend community college. It stars Joel McHale and Chevy Chase.
“Parks and Recreation” has been awarded a second season order. It follows the antics of an Indiana town’s public officials as they pursue random projects to make their city a better place and stars Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones.

“Ghost Hunters” gets season high ratings

New York, NY – October 22, 2009 – Maintaining its status as far and away the #1 paranormal investigation series on all of television, Ghost Hunters drew season highs in Household ratings (2.2) and total viewers (3.1 million) during its telecast last night on Wednesday, October 21, airing from 9-10pm ET/PT.

The episode, featuring an investigation at Chicago’s Congress Theater, posted a season high in Adults 18-49 (1.81 million), while also delivering 1.9 million Adults 25-54.

Ghost Hunters more than doubled the audience totals for this week’s new episodes of the competing paranormal series Ghost Lab on Discovery and Extreme Paranormal on A&E.

For the night, Syfy ranked #2 in both Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 among networks airing entertainment programming.

“Ninja Turtles” acquired by Nickelodeon

Nickelodeon parent company, Viacom, has acquired all rights to the “Ninja Turtles” franchise for $60m. One of the most popular children’s TV shows ever with massive ratings during the 80’s, the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” have had somewhat of a failed revival in recent times with a new series of cartoons, a couple of video games and a CGI movie, “TMNT”, in 2007. Viacom plan to release a new TV show in 2012 along with a new movie.

“The Vampire Diaries” gets full season

The CW has ordered a further 9 episodes of “The Vampire Diaries” as it continues to break the channel’s viewing records. The show stars Nina Dobrev (”Degrassi”) as Elena Gilbert, a high school who is torn between two vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon Salvatore (played by Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley).

“Glee” cast and crew news

Jonathan Groff will be joining the cast of “Glee” for 5-6 episodes as the lead singer of Vocal Adrenaline and a possible love interest for Rachel whilst Joss Whedon has been announced as a director for one of the final episodes of the first season. The show follows a high school Spanish teacher who becomes the director of the school glee club with plans to restore the glory it once had.

ABC orders “The Gates”

ABC has ordered up 13 episodes of “The Gates”, a crime drama that will take place in a small gated community. It will focus on a cop who is promoted who is promoted to chief of police in the small community and uncovers some dark secrets that the residents are keeping. The show is written by Richard Hatem and Grant Scharbo and although no casting has been announced yet, it should start production early in 2010.

Fox order more episodes of “The Cleveland Show”

According to a report at TV Guide, Fox have ordered up the second half of Season 2 before Season1 is even halfway through. This brings the total amount of episodes up to 35. Created by Seth McFarlane, Rich Appel and Mike Henry, “The Cleveland Show” is a spin-off based on a character from “Family Guy”. “Family Guy” was originally cancelled after three seasons until strong DVD sales and hoardes of fans successfully convinced Fox to bring it back. With Fox’s history of cancelling shows, ordering so many episodes in advance when the show only debuted on 27th September 2009 is a surprise to everyone.
