Arrow Films to release “Christiane F” DVD (UK)

A powerful, gritty and disturbingly accurate film about young girl turning to drugs and prostitution to escape the banality of life in a grey council estate in Berlin. Beautifully acted by a cast of unknowns and starring David Bowie as the voice of a generation, this film will stay in your mind long after the credits have rolled.

From the director of the award winning Last Exit to Brooklyn, BAFTA nominated Uli Edel.

Based on the true story of Christiane F, who at 13 became addicted to Heroin and turned to prostitution.

Christiane discovers a place called “The Sound”, a seedy teen hangout infested with drugs and dealers only too happy to feed Valium and Heroin to kids eager to escape their dreary reality. She meets Detlef, who starts using heroin soon after they become a couple. Scared of losing him to the drug, Christiane also beings using and in her desperation soon finds herself selling her body on the street trying to support their habit.

A dark and powerful film about the brutal reality of an addiction to Heroin.

“Puss in Boots” casting news

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zach Galifianakis has landed the role of Humpty Dumpty in the “Shrek” spin-off “Puss in Boots”. He joins confirmed cast members Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in the “Shrek” prequel which is due to hit cinemas in November 2011, a year after “Shrek 4-Ever After”. The real question is, have the “Shrek” films run their course?

“Thor” casting news

Anthony Hopkins has joined the cast of “Thor” as Odin, a role that was rumoured to be going to Robert DeNiro just a couple of weeks ago. He joins Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, and Colm Feore as confirmed cast members whilst Jude Law’s status remains unknown. NBC now cancels “Trauma”, extends “Chuck”

Despite ordering an additional three episodes of medical drama “Trauma” yesterday, NBC have now cancelled the show and will not be ordering any additional episodes than the 13 they have already committed to. They have, however, ordered up six additional episodes of “Chuck”, which shares the same timeslot.

NBC has ordered a further three episodes of medical drama “Trauma”. Marred by criticism over weak stories and bad acting, it has still managed to pull in decent (though not huge) viewing figures. Last night’s episode managed a rather mediocre 5.77million viewers.

Ricky Gervais to host Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais has been confirmed to host the 67th Golden Globes, the first host the ceremony will have had since 1995. Nominations are due to be announced on the 15th December 2009 with the show taking place live on NBC on the 17th January 2010.

“Footloose” remake loses director

“Footloose” remake director Kenny Ortega has quit the project over creative differences with Paramount production chief Adam Goodman. Goodman wanted the film to stick to a $25million budget and be an edgy drama just like the original whilst Ortega wanted a bigger budget and complex musical numbers. The film will still star Chace Crawford and Julianne Hough.

I don’t know about anyone else but I generally hate it when the studio tries to interfere too much, but, in this case, I hope the remake does stay closer to the original.

NBC has an ordering spree

NBC has ordered up a few episodes of several shows over the last few days.

“Mercy” has had a full season order and follows three nurses who deal with patients and personal issues at Mercy Hospital. It stars Taylor Schilling, Michelle Trachtenberg and Jaime Lee Kirchner.
“Community” has also been given a full season. It’s a comedy about a lawyer whose education is deemed void by the BAR and so he must attend community college. It stars Joel McHale and Chevy Chase.
“Parks and Recreation” has been awarded a second season order. It follows the antics of an Indiana town’s public officials as they pursue random projects to make their city a better place and stars Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones.
