“Puss in Boots” casting news

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zach Galifianakis has landed the role of Humpty Dumpty in the “Shrek” spin-off “Puss in Boots”. He joins confirmed cast members Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in the “Shrek” prequel which is due to hit cinemas in November 2011, a year after “Shrek 4-Ever After”. The real question is, have the “Shrek” films run their course?

“Thor” casting news

Anthony Hopkins has joined the cast of “Thor” as Odin, a role that was rumoured to be going to Robert DeNiro just a couple of weeks ago. He joins Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, and Colm Feore as confirmed cast members whilst Jude Law’s status remains unknown. “Footloose” remake loses director

“Footloose” remake director Kenny Ortega has quit the project over creative differences with Paramount production chief Adam Goodman. Goodman wanted the film to stick to a $25million budget and be an edgy drama just like the original whilst Ortega wanted a bigger budget and complex musical numbers. The film will still star Chace Crawford and Julianne Hough.

I don’t know about anyone else but I generally hate it when the studio tries to interfere too much, but, in this case, I hope the remake does stay closer to the original.

At a screening for “Trick R Treat”, Dylan Baker confirmed to the press that he will be reprising his role as Professor Curt Connors in the upcoming Spider-Man movie. So does this mean we will see Connors’ villainous alter-ego The Lizard in “Spider-Man 4″? Or will we be getting set-up to see him in the fifth movie? You can discuss “Spider-Man 4″ in our forums.

“Ninja Turtles” acquired by Nickelodeon

Nickelodeon parent company, Viacom, has acquired all rights to the “Ninja Turtles” franchise for $60m. One of the most popular children’s TV shows ever with massive ratings during the 80’s, the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” have had somewhat of a failed revival in recent times with a new series of cartoons, a couple of video games and a CGI movie, “TMNT”, in 2007. Viacom plan to release a new TV show in 2012 along with a new movie.

“Kane & Lynch” casting news

Bruce Willis has been confirmed to star in video game adaptation “Kane & Lynch” by producer Adrian Askarieh in this interview with GameDaily. Bruce Willis will play Kane in the movie, a convicted killer on his way to death row until someone else on his bus (Lynch), tells him an escape is about to happen. The game, released on the X-Box 360, PS3 and PC, came out to mixed reactions. People liked the story, enjoyed the game, but hated the controls. The movie, especially with Willis involved, has the possibility of being of the better action films of recent times and the second game is due out in June 2010.

“Little Fockers” cast news

Laura Dern has joined the cast of “Little Fockers” as the Focker kids’ headmistress according to The Hollywood Reporter. She joins Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, Robert DeNiro, Blythe Danner, Owen Wilson, Robert Redford, Barbra Streisand and Jessica Alba in the movie about the Fockers’ children. Directed by Paul Weitz, “Little Fockers” is due out in cinemas July 2010. Judging by opinion in our own forum, people are not exactly what you would call excited…

Jude Law and Robert DeNiro are rumoured to have joined the cast of Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming Marvel superhero movie; ‘Thor’. Speculation is that DeNiro might be up for the role of Thor’s daddy, Odin.
