Public Enemy wants you to fund their next album

Public Enemy are looking for fans to finance their forthcoming album. They are looking for 10,000 people to each pay $25, and in return you will get a numbered copy of the album and a share in revenue. As the first big name to sign up to Sellaband, the rap collective hope that the fans will appreciate the opportunity to take an active, albeit small part in the music business. Will they succeed? May not be the catchy...ist Marketing move, but its way ahead of whatever was in second place. Got to hand it to the Promoter's on this one. Not my band though so I'll probably pass, but not without saying I like the marketing idea alot........

I agree with Sam, if you dig the band, there really isn't a downside.

I just saw PE about a month ago, and they still sound amazing, so this is a no brainer for me.

If this takes off, it will be fantastic. I have no love for record companies, as they tend to rape their artists -- especially up-and-coming ones -- so if you can cut those clowns out of the picture entirely, it can only be a good thing.

This is quite a cool way to do things. Worth $25? Maybe so. The worst that can happen is you get a numbered copy of the album and on the plus side you might even get some extra cash as part of the profit share. If it was for one of my favourite bands, I'd probably go for it.
